Woman booked for cheating ‘fifth husband’

The district police have booked a woman identified as Kavita Dhamija of Shiv Colony, Karnal, for allegedly cheating on his ‘fifth’ husband. The latter, Puranchand Saini, an employee with the BSNL, has accused that Kavita had earlier taken divorce from three persons and she had even duped them of around Rs 15 lakh and gold jewellery worth lakhs.

Saini’s wife had died in 2010 after she was diagnosed with cancer and had a son (25) and daughter (19) from her. He made plans for a second marriage so that his children are taken care of. In this regard, he gave an advertisement in a newspaper, after which Kavita’s father Gurcharan called him and discussed his daughter’s marriage prospects.

Saini has claimed that Kavita was still in touch with her fourth husband Om Prakash and she had cheated on him by marrying him without informing about her ongoing relationship with Om. In 2010, while talking about the relationship, Gurcharan disclosed about one of her first husband Radhey Shyam to Saini that she had a daughter and son from him, but later due to some differences both got divorced. After divorce, the son lived with Radhey and daughter with Kavita at Karnal. To take Saini in confidence, Gurcharan also showed him the copy of divorce from the court and said Kavita’s daughter would stay with them. Later, both Saini and Kavita got married in 2010 and started living together in Ambala. After some time Kavita started calling Om to Saini’s home, saying that he was her cousin. Later, Kavita also called her daughter at Saini’s home and she also started living with them. Initially, Saini accepted everything, but soon things started changing drastically. Saini said Kavita even called the police, alleging that Saini was harassing her. He even gathered information regarding her ex-husbands. Later, Kavita left his house but allegedly took along Rs 3 lakh and gold jewellery of his ex-wife. According to Saini, she is presently living in Karnal. After this incident, Saini filed a complaint with Ambala SP. On the orders of the SP, a case under Section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), and 495 (same offence with concealment of former marriage from person with whom subsequent marriage is contracted) of the IPC was registered on June 28 against Kavita Dhamija, Gurcharan Das and Om Prakash at Mahesh Nagar police station. Investigation officer ASI Balkar Singh confirmed that three persons had been booked in this case and raiding teams would be sent to arrest those involved and they will be taken into custody soon.
